Publishing with Lollypop
We just love books at Lollypop. That’s what we do – books. We read, write, publish and sell books.
Yes, we have written books too so we know just how passionate about your work you need to be to have got to the stage of needing someone to publish it. It’s your “baby” and you want everyone to love it just as much as you do.
We appreciate every manuscript sent to us, but please understand that at Lollypop we only publish books that sit under a limited number of topics. We publish reference, general, children’s and poetry books but only those with a social, transport or environmental message. Lollypop has a motto “Books For The Life We Live”. So as long as your work fits well with this, and is absolutely fantastic, then please send it in to us.
Why these topics only? – I guess it is because we want to help to educate and maybe make just a little difference to the world in which we find ourselves.
To this end we at Lollypop Publishing have teamed up with CLIC Sargent - the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity. Every 48 hours, 10 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer and leukemia. CLIC Sargent’s mission is to be there for each family, caring every step of the way, providing individual support to children and young people with cancer and leukemia and their families.
We give 10% of all book sales to CLIC Sargent and all our books – and hopefully yours will carry the CLIC Sargent logo. If we decide to publish your work we hope that you agree with our aims to raise as much money for children with cancer as possible and so we request that you give just a little from you sales too.
We are passionate about helping the environment and try here at Lollypop to do our bit. All books are printed on recycled paper wherever possible and to save paper altogether we publish all our works in e-format also.
Oh – did I mention your own website? No? - well all new authors publishing with Lollypop can have their own website to advertise and sell their books. This means that authors can add new information, take direct orders, and interact with their readers too. There is no cost to the authors, it is just a part of publishing with Lollypop.
Just one more thing – we only publish a limited number of books a year so please don’t be offended if we have to turn down your work. We get such a lot of submissions that writing needs to stand out and keep our attention from the outset. Please check your work before you send it and remember that we are not here to give you ideas for books to write.
I hope this has given you just a little flavour of working with Lollypop.
How to submit your work to Lollypop
So you still want to publish with Lollypop? – Great, let’s look at the way to submit your work to Lollypop it give it the best chance.
Your Manuscript
The first thing is to send us some of your work.
For novels and poetry books we prefer to see the final work. We have copy editors if you need them.
We prefer to receive your work by e-mail (we work faster that way).
Please send it to Sarah Marshall at sarah.marshall@lollypoppublishing.co.uk
Name your file LP(Date)_(Your Name)_(Your Books Name).doc
(For example LP251207_Fred Bloggs_My Life.doc)
If you are submitting work that needs illustrating then you would have a far better chance of the work getting to the shelves if you had the illustrations or you had a good illustrator who is prepared to share royalties with you. If this is the case we do need to see a sample of the illustrations with your work, but not necessarily the final ones.
All illustrations do need to be appropriate to the work.
Illustrations to be sent in .png or .ai file format
For non-fiction books a proposal or outline/synopsis is just fine but the more information we have the easier it is for us to consider your proposal. Credentials, experience and passion are always great to know about. You can send this information to us within the body of an e-mail rather than by hard copy – we prefer that.
Please make sure that within your e-mail you include a return working e-mail address that you can be contacted on at any time for at least the next 3 months and a mobile or land line phone number if possible. We have had times when we have liked the work but have not been able to contact its author!
Please note that any work or illustrations sent by post will not be returned – we are so busy and we just don’t have time.
All submissions are read by a number of people before a decision is made. This can take up to 3 months. If we decide that we are not able to publish your work we will send a standard open rejection e-mail. Why a standard open e-mail? It is because we receive so many submissions that we are not able to spend time giving reasons for each one – I wish we could.
If we like your work then we will be in touch for a chat. We need to know that you are as passionate about your work as we are. After all, we will be putting in a lot of time and money to get your work to market and so we need to know that you are someone we can work with.
If this is you, then e-mail your work for consideration now.
Good Luck!
